week 4: memory map and margot stern summary
My memory map:
- When I was in Tenby, my dad told me and my brother that we were going to change schools. It was the biggest change in my life.
- When I was 7 years old, my uncle brought 2 puppies home. I desperately finished my homework as quickly as I could just to go play with the puppies. That was the first time I discovered how much I love animals.
- When I was 9 years old, I was riding my bike down a steep road and I pressed the front wheel brake and I ended up getting cuts and bruises all over my body. That was the worst injury I’ve ever gotten and I learned to be more cautious when I’m on a a bike.
- My friend cried in class because my teacher showed us a really sad Thai commercial. That was when I met my best friend today.
Summary of video:
Margot grew up in a racist society where people were categorised by their color. When she was a young girl, she lived across a zoo that had a sign said blacks could only enter the zoo on Thursdays and no whites were allowed. There was even a entrance for blacks and an entrance for whites at the zoo. When she sat in the part of a bus where the back and the front of the bus met, she was immediately pulled up by a man and was told that she was sitting in the wrong place. Blacks were less privileged than white people. However, some people would still have a sense of moral value and would not go to a place that only served a certain color. At the time, black people were viewed as criminals but Margot was loved and taken care of by black people.
