week 2: the individual in society pt. 2

I’m passionate about dance, piano and acting. These things help make me a very artistic person who likes to create and be artistic. Being passionate in something that requires me to have confidence has made me somewhat of an extrovert. But I sometimes  struggle to gain the confidence to step up on stage to perform or socialize with people because I also have an introvert side to me. A list of adjectives that describe me would be musical, small, laid back, loud, kind, indecisive. The first adjectives I thought of was small and loud because since young I’ve always been the smallest among my friends and I still am. However, among my friends and my family I was one of the more louder ones. The ones that took longer to think of was indecisive and laid back because it took some time for my personality to develop whereas my physical appearance has remained the same until now.

week 1: the individual in society pt. 1

The lesson was about stereotypes and how we categorize certain things under a certain gender or race. Such as getting your nails painted or doing your makeup is considered to be something girls do or playing football or basketball is something boys do. I feel that boys and girls alike should be able to do whatever  makes them happy and not let stereotypes keep a barrier between them and what they like. But there are more serious stereotypical things such as believing one gender is less capable of the other, especially women as they are viewed as less capable of men. Women can do whatever men can and vice versa. I feel that having a voice is important when it comes to people telling you what you are capable of doing. When you know your place and have a voice, you can stand and speak up for yourself.  At the end of the day, your gender or race does not define what you are capable of or what you can or cannot do.
